"
Is the Ferengi headgear uncomfortable?
It can be--Armin sometimes complains that it presses on his ears and they hurt after a while--but then, his ears stick out. Mine don´t, so I don´t suffer that effect. Anyone know why I wear a veil at the back and Quark doesn´t? There was a miscommunication between the makeup department and wardrobe. The original headpieces were open at the back to allow air circulation; they thought the costumes were going to hide that area. But they didn´t and you could see hair at the back of the neck. So wardrobe invented the veil. Quark´s headpiece is fully enclosed--which means he doesn´t get much circulation--they have to put tissues on top to soak up the sweat.
But can you give me a cultural reason for why some Ferengi wear the veil and some don´t? No? I decided it had to do with being the head of the family. The eldest male member of a Ferengi family (like Quark) go without the veil and all the subordinate members have to wear one. Do you like that explanation? (Applause)“
