In a film interview with Ireland´s The Event Guide, JJ Abrams affirms he´ll likely occupy the director´s chair for Star Trek XI: "I´ll be producing and most probably directing the 11th feature film outing, which won´t be out until about 2008 though."
As every Mission: Impossible: III interview is watched closely for the slightest hint about his plans for a 2008 Star Trek feature film, J.J. Abrams is remaining tight-lipped for the most part.
In an interview with the Times Online, the Lost writer/director has added another couple sentences worth scrutiny:
“We have a take that I think would be very interesting,” he says, guardedly. “I grew up with the show and it feels like a good time to take another look at it. There’s an opportunity to do something you haven’t seen before that could be very exciting.”
Abrams also talked briefly about Star Trek XI to Canada.com
"I am very excited but luckily I´m working with the Lost folks and the writers from Mission: Impossible III," he said.
Asked about casting and the shooting start date, Abrams raised both hands to stop the enthusiastic inquiries. "It´s too early to talk about," he said smiling. "Way too early."
These are the first remarks about Trek since last week´s Empire article claiming that he denied Variety´s Kirk/Spock Academy years plot report, but which contained contradictory quotes from Abrams himself.
